PostSubject: How it all works. *examples of the system in action*   How it all works. *examples of the system in action* EmptyTue Nov 02, 2021 6:42 am

Now my visitors, ladies and gentlemen.

it is time for an example of these mechanics at work. As simple on paper and in the mind something may be. As i say there is diffrence from reading, and understanding mechanics, but now comes putting everything to practice.

*important to note that these techniques/ spells while not apped will show the example of what combat looks like for both attack and defense, and calculations.*

This accumilates, and show cases each respective mechanic from physical weapons to spells and weapon arts. Realize that even if a number, or stat is considered high, it doesnt mean it throws everything out the window, and it is dependent on how you use a mechanic in the system.

Our two examples are jim, and joe, and as such i'll show the stat pages created respectively. *For references to stats, and the used classes, stats and read carefully. For reference to classes used classes*

in these examples these are more accelerated ignoring the dice rolls for the moment.

(jim responding to an attack.)

jim was a speedy bladesman, known to effortlessly handle most cases of attacks, but here joe the savage, was dueling him. A call out to crazy joe's side of self proclaimed dominance. Without warning joe lept with a savage cry towards jim the slick foot. He activated the wind dancers humm. (improves EVR values by 40% in all ranks for 1 post. cd: 3 posts)

The flurry of attacks and exchanges of both were evident. Neither truly had the advantage save a slight edge to jims speed. Which was as high as it was, nice to know that he could take advantage of joe's first 2 clumsy attacks.  The first two swings of joe, an  axe weilding warrior. The first swing an horizontal chop   which was to his ribs, easily avoided, and the secomd was a easily noted flip of the axe to a reverse grip. simed now in an upward horizontal slash.  Which missed jim by a hair. But it was evident joe was accurate. dangerous to face in the long run.

jim effectively kept his pace, and speed greatful he had such high speed, but now knew it was not for show, joe was no slouch. As he kept up his pressure on jim now was the tough part.  As this case he could not dodge by the graces of the system.

jim glances up and reflexivly  blocks joe's over head cleave With axe aimed at his skull. with crude shortsword, (Joes attack total is 55.)  The two weapons stop at a stand still as jim grinds his teeth and pushes off slipping back with his weapon pointed towards joe as he decided it was wise to keep his distance.

calcs:  str:30 + crude shortsword base damage.  1/3 of strength: 10+ crude shortsword base of 25= block total of 55. (*note this is a basic block*)

The second attack was as sudden as the first attack. Jim noted something was off as this occured. The axe swirled with an omnious orange glow along the sharp edge of the axe. (this ability buffed joe's attack by +5. making his  attack now 60. instead of 55.) He reflexively blocked trusting his defense a secomd time. But regretted it. as his blade showed an slight scratch as he was knocked off balence.  his sword arm knocked back and he was defenseless as he struggled to regain his posture. his hope of further defense tarnished.( block: 55 vs attack of 60 lead to being  over powered slightly.)

jim hissed as joe continued to aim a horizontal  cut at his  left knee. thankfully the leg greaves protected him, but it was too dangerous.  as he slipped back 3 feet to regain his posture. His system attacks were not spent yet but joe chose to shift to defense thanks to the incomming onsluaght, why always attack when your attack could be evaded and even defended well enough.

jim knew he needed to score back his hits and he still had enough actions to shift the tides.

pouring magic into his sword jim felt the blade lighten slightly and knew it was effective as a slight rush of wind sorrounded the blade. gale force blade (grants +15 strength. 1 physical attack: cd: 2 posts.) it was his turn  sliding into attack he  pointed his two fingers with his left hand at joe, and slashed the two fingers down creating the green  elemental wind slash spell at joe.  (spell power: 45. cd: 3 post.)

He would then use the oppertunity to close the distance between him and joe aiming 1 wind infused stab at joes gut, trusting his strike would break the defense. (attack total 70).

(joe response)

joe grinned as he spotted the wind spell. he was no spell sword exactly, but knew better then to leave himself defenseless, why run into a world of swords and not expect a spell. His intellegence rather shockingly high. He intended to learn 1 or two useful spells, but he needed time to climb as rumors went far to floor 6 hosting a slew of spells of interest.

He braced himself with axe in front creating the universal barrier, as its value of 80 thanks to his INR 40 was decent. he almost underestimated it as he noted the cracks and. chuckled

yeah that will hurt in the feedback system jim trust me. so lemmie show ya why im crazy joe.

he noted the powerful wind around ths blade and assumed his defensive ability stance of the second principle parry. A stance  that would all but add a whopping 30 to his strength of 30. and assist him with defense as he maintained his ignition edge skill. which granted him  that bonus +5 to his strength. (parry stance: 2 posts, cd: 4 posts.)

it was his ace in the hole as he was not crazy due to his willingness to attack, but preforme an crazy defense. He stepped to the side and blocked with the edge of his axe  to  the left of jims stab, directing the axe edge slightly under the thrust to not only shift the attack to jims right, but also upwards. But this was to look as if it was effective. While it was infact a trap.

(block value: final str  65, thanks to woodmans axe +5, and defensive stance bonus of +30 added to base 30 str. + base weapon damage: 1/3 str ( 21.66 rounded up to 22)+15:  block value: 102.)

The axe edge heaved the blade with feather ease as jim would will find his weapon flying from his hand landing  feet away  and jim unfortuniatly  sent flying into the air. There would be a chuckle and a glow as the axe would turn purple  now and the wind would  swirl around joe. He would mutter.

"offensive weapon art: hax murder"

the follow up attack on a now weaponless jim would be devistating to say the least. but it was a sure win, as it was a duel,  he knew the system will stop the lethal damage. but what would be satisfying was the robbery of all of the COR taken for items. he could taste it as he swung. ( Hax murder:  base weapon damage: 37 + str: 65 + SPR: 20= 122 attack damage in total. bonus if first hit suscessful, second hit deals 30% of the original damage. cd: 5 posts.)

(jim response)

he was unsure but noted the stance on defense, and frowned. Jim knew speed was not important, but  wished just once he would've spent more time improving his strength, perhaps it was because he desired more options, but as his attack was blocked he felt the feedback system kick in.His DFR was not the highest so it faded as the warning of 15 damage to his HPR was  sent to his screen.

oh no

the block sent his blade from his hand and he spotted from the corner of his eye it twirling  as his armor protected him, but this defense was diffrent, he was airborne now, and he knew he was in trouble as the wind insignia formed under his feet and he flipped back steadying himself hearing a dreaded set of words.

"offensive weapon art"

the glow was apparent and jim was disarmed as he too responded as he outstreached his right hand summoning a  small knife composed of wind. (wind shiv: cd 2 posts) A temporary tool. but it would help.  He too responded with the humming brood of the wind behind him as he activated another enhancer now to offer strength and protection. (spell: grants bonus DUR of 60, and second spell adds strength of 20, making jims strength 50. :cd 4 posts.)

jim shouted as the axe emlarged, and now gripping the wind knife, this joe was not easy, he used physical buffs very well, but nothing like the oppertunist he was. The art of the sky recovery  Was now on cooldown, but at least he could use his full set of actioms. if he was less prepared his Cor would've been joe's by now. this set him to act, if not to over power he needed to minimize the final impact as he was in an unfavorable position, the latter was to be done. He needed to get to the ground, and tighten his defense.

"Theurgey weapon art: Storm callers cry"

the blade made up of wind roared to life as the winds furiously howled around jim. A gleam in his eye. The wind knife roared As it was now a question of who would benifit here? (storm caller cry: base weapon stats: 1/4 str: 12 +1/2 spr: 30= 42 + inr: 25=67 ×2= 134. bonus: will exhuaste the user, preventing further action this post,  and reducing next posts ACR by 4. hit will grant encumberance state to the target if it hits. cd: 5 posts.)

the blades would clash in a flash of wind and brute strength and jim would feel it was in his favor, as the wind knife took the gigantic axe down a peg. The blade would sink into the armor with a resounding hum as it would shrink and vanish. Leaving jim to catch his breath as he reached for his blade.

(joes response)

the weapon art felt sure, but jim was more then words to call an amature, of course he had a response, as soon as the axe expanded, the man had an aireal recovery ability, thoes wind casters were a pain, but further was his own weapon art with a blade of wind.

phaha a toe shaver vs an axe. even with magic this is easy.

a costly thought for joe as the assault was powerful and he suddenly found himself and his axe knocked back. The act also left his arms and legs feeling the ache, he was not fast, but knew he was limited in options, as their exchange left the two needing a second to breath.Joe however was a tank the encumberance status flashes in his display, but through his scanning of jims stats he noted it was an exhuastion state on him.

drats this will be difficult Cor to gain, we went through 3 clashes so far, and his speed will be a problem.i might have to stun him to put jim down,

joe thought as he assumed a stance and added a slur to provoke jim into attacking. He abstained to drawing the man in to exhuast his options as he set up the defenders guard which would enable him to shove jim if he attacked.

the above systems were used in this example. Now to clearify. It becomes clear that your stats and choices come into play. This is evident here, as does when and why you use an ability.  They could save you alot of damage and grief.

Even with defense high it becomes clear that while you can blow alot of ACR playing offense, or swinging around, the same goes with defense,or minimizing a crucial ammount of damage as you see here with the mixture of amplifying abilities, spells, and the use of stance based stuff and other utility abilities/ weapons.

A clash can be settled with little damage or alot of damage, and even if its a little bit, the status effects can surely hurt.  As joe now left with 2 actions, but jim has a good deal of abilities/ spells on cooldown.

What is important is that if careless a mechanic will be undoing unless preperation is set, but secondly you can never be too prepared. fimding a balence is a good foundation. As now both have shown their strengths and shot commings. jim could do another spell but then be left with no abilities to put pressure on joe, but on other side of the coin, joe could wait for an oppeetunity tanking several hits, and clas with an ability or two. While a status effect can be brutal even to break into the HPR.

understanding background mechanics.

while in general the combative of communicative mechanics will play the forward position. it is important to note that there are some big background mechanics that cannot be shrugged off.

HPR and rest.

lets say that while the duel is concluded the HPR unless healed by an pretty established healer will be not as easy to recover as you will need to rest to restore HPR. in some cases this can go well, but if your Cor was wiped due to a risky gamble it could be uncomfortable.

weapon,and armor durability

one rule to remember is to keep your tools well-oiled and clean. In short make sure you are able to easily grab a weapon, or new armor, and do not be caught scrapping for scraps, best to take great care of your stuff and self.

ranged combat, and magic clashing.

now to get a full picture of what happens in ranged combat,it is wise to take note that where spells are in place. Nothing is as straight forward, Both jim and joe (our lovely test subjects.) will demonstrate  the magic system and range system. This covers the full scale of clashing.

so pay close attention

starting now.

(continuing from the above example)

jim gazed at joe, perplexed a bit, but knowing  if anything  it was a mocking cry that was preformed by him, granted it's close proximity to him and his drained status, he cleansed  with a cleansing potion taking a swing, (using a basic cleansing poition no uses left, but drained and tuant cleared.) He did not want to be taken down by a tuant and any other locking down properties that were nessccary to draw out damage.

drats this is super annoying, i only have two abilities left and my sword is damaged, needing repairs, i guess i should rely on the bow while I wait and recharge.

jim thought as since he was free from the tuant due to quick thinking as at the minimum he needed to shift back, and swap from blade to bow. Jim backed away swiftly and repositiomed himself  20ft away, unsure if joe had a charge. but at 20ft he shifted through his inventory as he moved back selecting the bow, and a quiver of 6 arrows, basic design. now for the weapons to load up.

the sound was an audiable loud male voice  announcement

SYSTEM INITIATING WEAPON SWAP, COUNT DOWN, 35 SECONDS. 34. 33. 32. 31.

who knew i had to swap mid duel, unfortunate.

(joe response)

the tuant was shrugged off by an clearing potion, and joe huffed slightly as he noted jim decided to shift from close quarters, this granted joe time to glance at the dent in his axe, it was round three of their duel and like wise he assumed the scan was not deceptive, the crazy man needed to fix the axe after the battle. Jims cor would  suffice. Still he  decided to make use of the axe pre switching to an much more appropriate weapon.

heaving up his right arm the axe would with a rough whipping motion be sent hurling like a throwing axe towards jim,  due to jims speedy retreat it wouldve been  difficult to hit, but granted jim needed to defend this one now as he was indeed now awaiting his weapon.

*throwing axe (15 (str 25/2 rounded up), + 10 (spr:20/2) 25+ ACC of 29= 54 total for thrown weapon. )

Meanwhile joe too initiated his inventory, and scrolled through his recent wares his finger hovered over the  rare  shortsword hex drinker. its ability was self explained as capable of releasing a wave that ate through theurgy.

sounds fair enough, as he will have his hands full.

joe thought as he punched the item as the system set it for transportation into combat.

"WEAPON SELECTED RARE CLASS ADJUSTING TIMER BY 15 SECONDS, BEGINNING COUNT DOWN. 50, 49, 48, 47, 46, 45.

(jims response)

The count down began but it did not take a genius to realize joe was onto something too, the axe was thrown and jim had to at best minimize the blunt of the damage towards him. it was the sure luck and reminder evasion was not absolute here.He braced himself moving his leather gauntlets in a guard and shifted to his right.  letting tge axe edge brush the side of his uantlets but while the guantlets took the blunt of the  axe throw. it was not too serious. (glancing blow: damage reduced from 54 by 50%, to now 27.)

Hearing joe's own  system announcing the shift to a rare weapon. made jim shake his head. imagining  that the Cor was life, it used to be booze work, and the dininng on weekends as a reward, now a sell sword by  choice of survival. it had been months, and risks being cut down.  all for the desire to feel sone control. This system brought out  the worst in all, and comradship from unliky allies.

Count down complete!  bow loaded and ready.

"finally"

jim said with a grim snile and the bow materialized before his hand in a few seconds. He didnt worry about the Axe, as it dematerialized and joe's system was still counting.  Jim reached for the quiver on his  hip, hosting 6 arrows and loaded notching the bow string with an arrow being drawn,  set aim as joe's system was nearing thevend of its countdown.

lets get started joe

jim thought as he let loose the arrow towards joe.

(bow: 15(1/2 str:30) + 30 (1/2 spr: 60) +6= 51)

(joes response)

i used to be a handy man running odd jobs, and games were my escape, this however, was not worth my life, i fed my child, my wife, so i want to win, i want  to drop games and hold my boy, not go for these kids. its not worth the loss, but its kill or be kiled, cor or weakness. we gotta do what we gotta do.

joe let out a weary sigh as he did not want this, but to live another day was a glimmer of hope  it would end, it would end he would be home. He would remove all his systems and enjoy the outside. The count down ended but joe was still counting down for freedom.

"transfer complete hex drinker ready"

the man gazed at the arrow flying towards him as he gripped hex drinker, deflecting was not simple, as it was a challenge to hit if one was not focused. But joe was not fighting for fun, he was fighting for the end. He timed his blow as the arrow neared and wishing  for nothing but the best. he swung. the arrow was tapped harmlessly away and sailed to joe's left.

(deflect: str:20, + spr: 25 /2= 24+ inr:40= 64 deflection power vs the 51 arrow total)

He grinned, and flourished the weapon as it was a duel, so he had to make a show, pointing hex drinker at jim he smiled.

"nice shot, now take hex drinkers devouring wave"

a massive wave of dark energy released from  hex drinker, and with a swipe he sent it traveling from his blade towards jim. As it spreaded out to a 15ft wide and high wave. ( hex drinker devouring wave power equal to users INR+5. totaling to 55.)

(jims response)

jim scowled as the arrow was deflected, He was once more out shone. it was always the same, mever enough. just like in life. not enough money, not enough drinks, not enough for electricity or rent,  he didnt work hard enough before, and even became a deadbeat... here he felt he had his chance. another shot, he could fight or put numbers to  what he desired was show worthy. in this system where lives were connected he felt free. He did not want to go back to the 9-5 grind. He wanted EXP, and cor, vs the dollar bill. But someone was better equipped.

"no you will not take this from me! not like the real world!"

jim shouted as he pulled pointed his hand towards the wave and yelled once more.

"its my life, my cor, and my world! Wind bullet!"

the wind funnled arround his his outstreached hand and even though he was not the most proficent in theurgy, he was not a push over.  his spell was not weak to dark so it was a normal clash. Still it was infuriating to know someone would take his freedom. He was one who was tired of sociatl norms. But of course it was an item spell, of course it would win. but he minimized the impact on himself greatly. as it hit his chest for 5 damage.

(wind bullet: being level 4 it would be 1/2 of inr: 15+35 leading up to a total of 50 vs 55.)

*end of example*[/i]

https://sao-remastered.forumotion.com/t87-weapons-damage-status-and-spells

https://sao-remastered.forumotion.com/t140-ranged-combat

the above systems were used, specifically the "Re equip system" "deflect system" for ranged weapons, and well both two hits granted.

the important take aways are the following.

it is important to note both diffrence in power between actions, and fully awknowledge the info another gives you.  this is a good habit to practice.

when resolving clashes where there is not a definite weakness in a element. The diffrence will go through whether it is 1, or 25. that will be the damage in the end. This is to simplify clashes without over complicating stuff. While still granting an option to defenders to not just take damage. better to take 5 damage instead of 50.

the re equip system requires one to be vulneralble as you saw with jim, but defenses could be made still. it is best to still try, and use and protect your self still. reducind damage by effort will more then likely result in a "glancing blow" opportunity.

Notice the detail in joe both awnkowledging the action, and making sure to make their defense legitimate vs ranged attacks. by both anknowledging the arrow was shot and setting up to time defending against it. regardless if seen, or not seen, attacks are best acknowledged. Even if they missed via EVR rating not being hit. This is important in all points of combat, as it is rude to ignore stuff.

While cooldowns are not awnknowkedged directly still keep note somewhere in your post, like implying in lacking avaliablility of even attacks. Remember going wild has conciquences so best to also have some reserve.

when at distance keep in mind that merely running up is not always wise, but so is being weaponless, and running up, unless you have unarmed combat abilities.

One thing to remember is you have armor, do not fear being hit, but like anything have fun defending an attack, do not fear as you can have armor repaired.
